Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a skills-based therapy originally developed to help individuals with intense emotions and self-destructive behaviours. Today, it’s widely used to support anyone struggling with emotional regulation, relationship challenges, or impulsivity.

DBT focuses on four main skill areas:

  • Mindfulness – staying present and aware in the moment
  • Distress Tolerance – managing crises without making them worse
  • Emotional Regulation – understanding and managing strong emotions
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness – improving communication and relationships

DBT is especially effective for people who feel emotions intensely, experience mood swings, or struggle with relationships. In therapy, you’ll learn concrete, practical skills for building balance, resilience, and healthier connections.

About Calm Waters

“The mind is like water. When it's turbulent, it's difficult to see. When it's calm, everything becomes clear”. Buddha
